I personally hope that this endeavor comes to fruitation, i have dreamed of a feasible fully rounded battletech/mechwarrior game from the day i got my first box set in 1983 back when we programed using if then logic......ahh the good old days....i digress...
anyhow, i truly hope that this does work and that this endeavor goes back to the roots of this game and allows for salvage, custom patching(as in makeshift repairs on mecha) and more, i have played in mw3 and mw 4 leagues and enjoyed the game, but still there is always the room for improvement....

also i seem to have joined late in the game, so to speak but i do hope that my Mongoose is not totally forgotten, nor the beloved Highlander(the only mech designed to fire a gause while in JUMP) of course i hope to find some arrow space fighters and yes i do realize that their might be a legal issue to instituting the LAMBS and i do not mean The laser anti missile systems , i mean the wasp L a m b, the shadow hawk lamb and the phoenix hawk lamb.. these mechs were the core of planetary defense in the early game and it was due to Robotechs decade long appeal process and FASA running out of cash for lawyers that finally killed these lovely mechs for battle tech players,,,, anywho Ty for the opportunity to voice myu concerns adn i look forward to patching up to try this

The funny irony to the original posts story is that while FASAs plagiarism (legal or otherwise) of "robotech" caused it to have to cease using the images, Japanese courts ruled that the Macross images were never owned by the company that sold their usage to Harmony Gold to begin with. Though the way courts work that may have meant that they simply couldn't renew them so they're probebly fully expired by now.

That having been said the anime mechs were fully replaced 5 years ago by offical and semi original designs. Im not sure if we actually could put LAMs into this engine or not for sure though the unit type would be interesting. Almost like the VTOL aerospace fighter unit.

you could always just slap a pair of arms and legs onto an aerospace fighter, right?

And somehow make it transform into a mech?

Actually, technically yes slapping arms and legs onto a VTOL would work. Simply have them animate to it's movement. So in a way, yes it's plausible. Though giving it the ability to shift is a completely different story. Not out of the realm of possibility though in a way I guess you'd have Battlefield Macross at that point. Would go with the re licensed old imagery at least.

I've played a POS, Transformers mod for BF1942, where you could "transform" into a car/plane/etc. but doing so all it did was spawn a plane. LOL its a horrible idea, but just throwing it out there.

But, isn't there a unit in BF2142 that can sorta change from two modes? I can't remember off hand, but possibly you could make the crouch animation at least sorta transform, but it would probably be crap. Just throwing out ideas.

I'm not sure if you knew this, but I beta tested that mod. It was interesting, but it eventually died.

A guy did that in Quake 2, with the VF1 character models, they changed to Gerwalk when you crouched. Didn't fly or anything though. I wouldn't consider a half-functional idea though. If there isn't a tolerable way to do something then it simply isn't done. I'm not sure if there is a unit like that already, if there is I don't remember it.

Ironically it looks like Catalyst can't legally put Macross back into their Battletech. Doesn't really stop the LAM concept I suppose though I doubt they'll ever mention them again :)
